To say something about my paintings, first I remember those immortal lines of the greatest poet Rabindranath Tagore –
…”FRAGMENTS OF FORMS STORED IN THE MIND
COMBINE IN PICTURES AT THE MAGIC TOUCH OF ART”…
I have picked up the canvas to reveal the picture of my heart, my thought, my dream. The world’s life, beauty, smell, touches, sound - everything is my source. You will hardly find any political disturbances or the view of a hungry man with open mouth in my paintings. However, I am inspired by the folk art, Mughal miniature, Ajanta cave art etc. i.e. various kinds of Indian heritage art. The form of my paintings is based on the extract of these things. Traditional Indian art, its concept, the beauty of woman and also the fantasy of Western Art have some impact on my creation. Accordingly, I fill up my canvas with my own style.
Once I have done one work where a girl is making a bird free from its cage into the clear sky. Again in a second painting I have drawn an imprisoned woman seeking to be free; the woman is busy in talking with a free bird. Here I felt that still women in our society are much more neglected, lonely and imprisoned compared to men. This type of thought has a great impression upon me. Probably this is the reason why women and their loneliness are given some preferences in my works. Like this, different subjects at different time have helped me to do different paintings. For example, I have done a series on Ram – Sita, two great Mythological characters. Regarding Lord Krishna, another very important character in Mythology, I have started another series work. There are a variety of features in the character of Lord Krishna, which have helped me to find the idea of my work. We find Krishna sometimes as lover, sometimes as savior, sometimes as protector, sometimes as adviser in the war field. I personally like Krishna as a flute playing boy in the Love phase. This beauty, emotions make me much attracted and charmed. To give the concrete figure to this glorious character of Krishna I have directed my pencil and colors in a variety of manners.
On the other hand, Bird has a special importance in my paintings. I treat bird as the representative of a free and independent life under the sun. I can feel this sensation of life from my childhood. Again, trees, leaves, flowers etc. are the symbols of social bindings – these prove the presence of nature in my paintings. I have just changed the way to represent this nature in my works.
In this way, I have tried to express my feelings, ideas and thoughts with the combination and co-ordination of various colors. Today troubles in human life are growing rapidly, reality is becoming harder, different problems are going to demolish a sweet tensionless life. But we want to come out from this critical situation. To get freed from this tough reality, I can only stretch out my imaginations over the pieces of papers, canvas.
